The retina is the innermost layer of the eye and is a very thin, highly sensitive structure that does not exceed the thickness of a paper book and contains ten layers composed of neurons and photoreceptor cells.
The function of the retina is to receive the image and then convert light rays to nerve impulses which are transmitted through the optic nerve to the brain.

The retina contains 2 types of photoreceptors:

The rods which are responsible for vision in dim light (night vision), and the cones respond to high intensity light (day vision) and color vision.

The most important diseases that affect the retina are: diabetes, hypertension and macular degeneration. It is critical to detect these diseases in early stages for better prognosis.
Diabetics should have an eye exam periodically for early detection of any effect of diabetes on the retina, and this leads to any proper therapeutic intervention, laser or surgeries at the right time.

Laser Retinal Therapy:

Now available at Roaya Center GYC (1800 GYC) for retinal laser treatment. This reduced the duration of treatment from multiple sessions to one session not exceeding half an hour.

The procedure takes 2 minutes under strictly sterile conditions inside the operative theatre
Examples: lucentis ,Eylea

Pars plana vitrectomy surgery:

This surgery is a one day surgery which is done under local anesthesia with the most advanced and fast vitrectomy machine.
